Albuquerque eyes Route 66 upgrades in ‘forgotten’ area

 

(Santa Fe New Mexican) New Mexico’s largest city is the latest to embark on upgrades to its portion of the historic Route 66 Highway.

Officials in Albuquerque want to see improvements to a barren stretch of Route 66 in an area that some complain is a forgotten part of the city, KRQE-TV reports.

City officials are eying a $2.3 million plan that would add medians, landscaping and lighting along the road west of downtown. Currently, there are no sidewalks, landscaping or bike lanes and very few street lights. Continued

Bryce Alford

He played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins. He set school records for the most three-point field goals made in a game, season, and career. He earned first-team all-conference honors in the Pac-12 as a senior in 2016–17.

(Santa Fe New Mexican) … Brita Sauer, the woman who managed Albuquerque library’s seed library, is now library services director at the main branch of Santa Fe Public Library, with plans already in the works to replicate the successful Duke City program.
“I think that Santa Fe is a great community for this,” Sauer said. “It’s a great resource and a great way for people to come together around seeds and plants. It’s also a positive thing for libraries to tap into that community spirit that brings people together a little more.” Continued

Locomotive restorers hope to steam ahead

 

(Albuquerque Journal) Volunteers have been putting steam locomotive Santa Fe 2926 back together for more than 15 years, and it looks as if the old engine will soon be rewarded with some fire in the belly.
“A few more months and we will probably be able to make steam in the boiler for the first time since 1953,” said Michael Hartshorne, president of the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society, the organization dedicated to bringing the locomotive back to life. Continued
