I wandered into the Clovis Hastings today and ran smack into the fellow pictured above, who turns out to be David "Blackie" Giordano-Steece. He's selling a book. But unlike most writers, who turn up at bookstores with a nothing more than a pen, hoping to sell a thousand books in an hour or two, Mr. Steece has a whole spread of interesting books and memorabilia set up for the entire week. Not surprising, as he isn't a typical author.
Steece has spent his years on this earth in a colorful way, consorting with Mafioso's, police, politicians and other shady characters and found redemption in the USMC. His books recount those wild times and are on sale at the Clovis Hastings, where he'll be every day through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Along with his books, he has on sale book related swag and items pertaining to his years in the Marines (my favorite being a button advertising Chesty Puller for President), and a pretty good selection of K-Bar knives.
Mr. Steece, and his wife, are friendly people who suffer fools like myself gladly, so stop by and see them if you're in town.
