Storm Light, Duran, New Mexico. |
"Storm light" is a popular term with photographers. As far as I can gather, it just means a photograph in bad weather. I think of storm light as a specific setting, one where there's a sunny sky at my back and a storm, or storm front, in front of me.

Not storm light, just a storm, Dora, New Mexico. |
Shooting storm light doesn't require any special equipment or settings, just set your camera as the conditions warrant. However, you do need to pay special attention to the colors of your surroundings as the weather can make them peculiar, and your camera can make them even more so. You'll need to remember what you were looking at when you start the editing process.

Weird storm light: too green, too blue for normal conditions,
but that's how it looked at the time. (San Jon, New Mexico).
Storm light can be found in any area bordering good weather and bad, which is often a wide swath that doesn't require you to put yourself in harm's way.
