(Santa Fe New Mexican) “Tough, daring and picturesque” was how one observer described the celebrated ciboleros, or buffalo hunters, on the New Mexico frontier.
For generations, their caravans formed in October of each year, after the harvests were in. At towns all along the Rio Grande and on the east slopes of the mountain ranges, the hunters would assemble with their ox carts and pack mules.
