Army surgeon wrote of hardships in N.M. territory

(Santa Fe New Mexican) ... At age 78, army surgeon Dr. R.H. McKay was urged by his family and friends to write about his military experiences on the Southwestern frontier. Little Pills was the result.
Between 1869 and 1875, McKay served at more than a half dozen posts, mainly in New Mexico and Oklahoma. In that time, he made valuable observations and had an assortment of exciting adventures. Continued
